Style Diary – Hoodies

Hoodies in the Rain

Hoodies

What’s not to love about hoodies.  They are soft, warm and comfortable.  And this season, it looks like we can pretty much throw one on over whatever we are wearing and look “fashionable”.  To that I say…heck, yes.

Where to Wear?

If you throw on a hoodie over a skirt, as shown above, then wear it wherever you’d like.  Well, almost wherever.  I probably would not wear a hoodie to work, church, a wedding, or any other formal occasion.  But, for all your casual events, why not?

Investment Pieces

That skirt is so cute, I am adding it in the investment pieces.  The shoes, watch, and of course that gorgeous umbrella. (yes, umbrellas can be gorgeous and an investment piece).

Thoughts

It’s Friday.  You made it through the week.  Good for you.  I have to ask, did you pick out your outfits for the week?  If so, how did it work out for you?

This weekend, if it is cool where you live, throw on that hoodie, lay back, and  relax.  You deserve it.  You’ve worked hard this week.  I am proud of you and your amazing work ethic.  Nice job, my friends.

Thanks for stopping by.

Fondly, Sonya

Saturday Errands

Saturday Errands

Saturday Errands

Yes, you have them – all those Saturday to-do’s.  Let’s not overthink our look, today, since we have so much to do.

Throw on those comfortable, ripped boyfriend jeans, add a basic tee, some comfortable flats, grab your tote and start your day of errands.

Where to Wear?

Wear this look today, as you check off all of those to-do’s on your list.  Wear it to any casual event, wear it around the house, shopping, the movies, etc.

Investment Pieces

Let’s categorize all of these items as investments, why don’t we?

Thoughts

Today, I will be continuing my tidying process by going through all of my shirts, sweaters, etc., to see which I want to keep and which I no longer love.  Good times…

Happy Saturday everyone.

Casual Friday Jeans 5

Casual Friday Jeans

Casual Friday Look 5

Our last look for casual Friday.  This time we are working with burgundy and cream tones.  Just as in our previous look with flats, we’ve added a blazer to make the look more professional and put-together.

What do you think of this look?  Do you like those flats?

As you can see from this week’s posts, with one pair of great fitting, conservatively styled jeans, you can create many weeks of casual Fridays.  We just went through five weeks of casual Fridays – wow how time flies.

Happy Friday y’all.  Have a wonderful day.  As always, be safe as you head to happy hour tonight.

White Tee Basics

White Tee Basics

White Tees

This white tee can be worn under blazers for work, as we have seen earlier this week, it can be worn as shown for a casual Friday look, it can be worn with faded, ripped jeans for a more casual look and on and on.  White tees are certainly a wardrobe staple.

When selecting a white tee, choose one that is the perfect shade of white – keeping in mind that stark white is not the best look on all of us.  Some of us look better in a softer, less bright, white.  In addition, select a fabric and style that suits you.

You need to love this white tee, so be selective, shop around and choose very carefully.  If you do these things, then this tee will become a workhorse.

Where to Wear?

Wear this look to work on a casual Friday, wear it to brunch, to the movies, on a date, out with friends, etc.  This is one of those looks that can be worn on many days, for many events and occasions.

Investment Pieces

The white tee is a must investment piece, the blazer may be one if that color is one of yours, the jewelry is certainly an investment.  As far as the shoes and purse go, they may be investment pieces if bright yellow coordinates beautifully with the rest of your wardrobe.

Thoughts

We love Fridays, don’t we?  Wearing this fun look makes Friday even more special.  I must admit, though, I think I am less productive on Fridays than the other days of the week.  I wonder if it is because of my casual looks?

What are y’alls thoughts on productivity and Fridays?  Do you think you get less done on a Friday than any other day of the week?  If you answered yes, then it is probably because of the casual attire.  If you don’t believe me, then do an experiment and don’t wear a casual outfit on a random Friday and see if you are more productive that day.  Let me know what you find out.

You know, with this experimenting business, y’all are just like scientist.  Good job, I knew you were intelligent!

Happy, happy hour, today!!  Be safe and have a relaxing two days off.

Winter Coats that Work

Winter Coats

Winter Coats for Work

How many winter coats do you own?  Not enough?  I know, me either.

Although it is almost spring, right now is a great time to shop for a winter coat.  Many are on sale and financially speaking, right now is the best time to buy one (or two).

I say “financially speaking” because winter coats, like the ones shown above, are usually quite expensive.  If you can find one on sale now, that is perfect for your style and wardrobe – buy it.  Next winter, you will be so happy that you did.

While I am on the subject of winter coats, why not take an inventory of your winter coat wardrobe.  (It’s probably a good idea to do this step before you buy anything new).

Which of your coats did you wear the most this past winter?  Which did you wear the least?  Why, and why?  If you can answer these questions, then you will know what type of coats for which to shop.

Also, before you put away those winter coats, make sure that they are clean.  You really do not want to store them all summer long if they are dirty.  (P.S. why not clean the coats that you plan on giving away, too?  Don’t you think that the recipient would appreciate that?)

Where to Wear?

The style of the coats shown above would be perfect to wear to work, perfect with your dressy dresses, great for an evening out, ideal for church, and would certainly work with your casual outfits including jeans, as well.

Really, the coat styles above can be worn to almost any event in chilly weather.

Investment Pieces:

All of the winter coats above would be an investment piece.  These styles are pretty timeless.

Thoughts

I, for one, do not have an extensive inventory of winter coats.  Living in Dallas, we don’t need winter coats for a great part of the year.  Therefore, I have neglected this very important piece of clothing.

As I stated above, now is a great time to take an inventory of your winter coats.  Clean those you intend to keep, purge those that have become ratty, stained and are no longer repairable, give away those that no longer meet your needs, sell those that are of greater value, and of course, buy any styles / colors of which you are in need.

Personally, I should take my own advice and spend some time going through my winter coat wardrobe. 🙂

Happy winter coat shopping, my friends.

Capsule Wardrobe – Spring Break

Spring Break

When packing for spring break, or for any vacation, why not pack a capsule wardrobe.  Pack items that will work beautifully together and are interchangeable so that you can get multiple outfits out of fewer clothes.

I’ve included some suggestions / ideas above and below.

Many of us (especially those of us who live in north Texas) will be heading out of town this week for spring break.

Where will your travels take you…the beach, the mountains, to foreign lands?

Sitting with our 15-year old daughter, Kate, last night at dinner, the conversation turned to spring break.  She was telling us some of the places to which her friends will be heading this week.  Places like Paris, the Bahamas, Italy, etc.  “Wow, I responded, those are some big, fancy trips.”

Indeed…our spring break travels are not so fancy…we are headed to chilly, and still-snow-on-the-ground northern Michigan. Why you ask?  Honestly, I don’t know. LOL

Safe travels my friends.  Have a restful, fun, spring break week.

Casual Fridays – Lavender and Cream

Spring with Rebecca Minkoff's Perfect Jacket

Lavender

A beautiful color for spring, no doubt.  There are so many shades from which to choose.  Can you wear lavender?

Where to Wear?

I had casual work Friday’s in mind in designing the above look, but it can certainly be worn to many other events.

Wear it to work on a regular work day if you environment is more creative and casual, wear it when going out with your friends, wear it on a dinner, lunch or brunch date, wear it to the movies, shopping, even traveling.

Investment Pieces

The watch and earings are certainly investment pieces.  Those would work with most any outfit.

The bag has such a classic look and the color is perfect for spring and summer.

We all need a pair of white, or cream, skinny jeans, don’t we?  I just find that these are hard for me to wear.  I love the look, but have not been successful in wearing them.  Perhaps, being a women of a certain age, I’ve gone past my years of being able to wear white skinnys.

Happy Friday, my friends!!  You’ve done a great job this week, now go meet those friends for happy hour and relax and enjoy yourself!!

Rainy Days

I like rain – or maybe the reason I like it is because, here in Texas, we don’t often get it.  Do y’all like rainy days?

Rain or shine, may today bring joy and happiness to y’all!!!  Happy Wednesday!!

A Knit Cape for Fall

A Knit Cape for Fall

Cape

What do y’all think about capes for fall and maybe winter?  Are they warm enough?  I’m not a huge fan of them on me, but I love how they look on everyone else.

Where to Wear

This is a fun, rather youthful outfit…wear it to most casual events. Again, if you have a casual office, wear it to work as well.

When the weather gets colder, add some tights and knee, or over the knee high boots.

Happy Wednesday, thanks for stopping by!!
