Party Time – Fancy

All Dressed Up

Will you be heading to any really fancy parties this holiday season?  Usually, there is a lot more work involved in getting ready for these type of events.

Start with a beautiful, flattering dress.  Choose a color that compliments your skin tones.  Pick a style that isn’t too tight or binding – you do need to be able to move.  Make sure you include the proper undergarments – i.e. bra, slip, panties, and any firming type of garment.  I think of these items as part of the dress.  If you are budget conscious, make sure you consider the cost of these undergarments in your total dress price – these items can be quite pricey.

Next – a great pair of shoes.  Most fancy dresses look best with high heels.  Choose a pair that you can actually walk in while wearing.  Surprisingly, there is a lot of walking at these fancy parties – especially at the ones held in large venues.

Then there is the purse.  I think a clutch is a must and compliments fancy dresses beautifully – even if you can’t really fit anything inside of it.  Inside the clutch, add only the essentials.  My essentials: phone, blotting pads, license, credit card, some cash, and lipstick.

And last but not least – the jewelry.  These items don’t have to be expensive, they just need to look like they are.  This is always a trial and error type of process for me.  I start with the color that compliments, then work my way to the size and style.  Most women don’t wear watches with their fancy dresses and prefer bracelets, instead.  (I have a passion for watches, so naturally I gravitate towards wearing one – even with my dressiest looks.)

You aren’t quite ready, though, are you?  Before the dress, there was the hair and makeup, the nails and toes and of course the date.  These are important things to consider as well.

The important thing to remember when getting dressed for a fancy party is to plan, plan and then plan.  Don’t wait until the day of the event to put it all together. (Only a few of you can wait until the last minute and still manage to look amazing.  Sadly, I am not one of you.

Just because this is a fancy event, it does not mean that you can not have fun with it.  Have fun – even in the preparation parts.  Take your time getting ready that day.  Take a bath, get your hair, nails and makeup done, put on some enjoyable music while you get dressed, light a magnificent smelling candle, maybe sip on a glass of wine.  The point is to make it special, enjoyable and memorable.

Have a great time at your parties, my friends!! Y’all look stunning!
