Style Diary – Camel Coat

Work Week - Camel Coat

Camel Coat

Yes, we all need one.  No…we do.  Let’s just accept this as fact and get one.  One less decision to make, right?

Where to Wear?

Certainly wear this to work, wear it to dinner, church, cocktail party, drinks after work, etc.  This is one of those outfits that is appropriate for most occasions that come your way.

Investment Pieces

Let’s just say all of these pieces are an investment.  That will just make things easier.  And on this post, we are all about easy.

Remember how we discussed the cost of certain pieces in my sets?  You don’t.  Well, that is certainly OK.  Let’s discuss it again, then.

I choose pieces that will be most flattering in the creation of the set.  Some of these pieces, like the VB dress shown, are quite expensive.  I am not suggesting that you go and buy these expensive pieces (although if your budget allows, then by all means, go for it), I am recommending the “look” that the pieces are showing.

You can create most of my looks by purchasing all of the pieces at Forever 21, let’s say, and spend less than $100 on the entire outfit – including the purses. (But probably not including the jewelry – sorry for that).

So, purchase your clothes wisely.  If you like the look that is presented in the sets I show you, then by all means, imitate it, but do so while staying within your budget.  Yes, you do have a budget – we all do.  We shall discuss that at a later date. 🙂  You are wise consumers!  Way to go!

Have a wonderful day and thanks for stopping by.

Fondly Sonya

One Dress – Two Ways

We are continuing our ruffles theme this week with a ruffled dress, this time.

This is a beautiful (and expensive) dress from Victoria Beckham.  What do you think about the two ways it is styled, above?

If you are going to invest that much money on one dress, my thought is that you should have multiple ways in which you could style it.

To make a dress work for work (yes, I meant to say that), simply add a blazer, closed toed pumps, conservative jewelry and a tote or satchel.

Then, for dinner, or an evening look, take off the blazer, add some fun, strappy (no, “strappy” is not really a word, but it should be, – it means, shoes with straps) shoes, change out your jewelry to something more bold, big and bouncy (I’m not sure what I mean by bouncy jewelry – I needed another B word and couldn’t think of a better one), and lastly, add an interesting clutch

Where to Wear?

The first look can be worn to work, to Easter brunch, on Mother’s Day, to the theater, to a work dinner, to any number of conservative occasions or events.

The second look can be worn to Easter brunch and Mother’s Day brunch, too,  to a fancy dinner, to the opera, to a cocktail party, to a baby’s christening, and to many other “dressy” events or occasions. Let your imagination soar…

Investment Pieces

As I look at all of the items in this post, I can see how each and every one of them could be an investment piece, except maybe the “strappy” heels.  Although, you could argue that “strappy” heels have been popular for a few years now.  I know…it’s not nice to argue…in this case, we are just having a discussion, right?  How about if you decide on the “strappy” heels for yourselves?  A win-win sort of thing.

What do y’all think about making a few changes to an outfit and taking it from one type of event, like work, to another, like dinner?

I have been using this “strategy” for a long time and it has worked pretty well.

Are you tired of ruffles, yet, or may I post one more day that’s ruffled themed?  I may…well, thanks y’all, that’s one of the reasons I like you so much – you are so agreeable.

See you tomorrow with our last ruffled theme outfit of the week.  I know, you can hardly contain yourselves.  🙂

Stripes at Play

Going Out Stripes

Are y’all going out, tonight?  If you are, try an all black outfit – especially one that incorporates that striped shirt we are loving this week.

An all black outfit is pretty timeless and usually quite dramatic.  If you don’t look good in black, then this is not the look for you. (Sorry about that).

Where to Wear?

Wear this on a date, to a concert, drinks with friends, and anywhere where the look is less than conservative.

Investment Pieces

The shirt, jacket, watch, and sunglasses are investment pieces that would be stylish for years.  I love the purse, and it too is an investment piece.

I’m not sure about the boots…I’ll let y’all decide about those.

I was facetiming (is that even a word) with my 26-year-old daughter last Saturday night at around 9:30 p.m. as she was getting ready to go out.  I can certainly see someone her age wearing the outfit above and rocking it!!  Someone my age…probably not so much – we’d look like we were trying too hard, right?

Do all of you young ladies start your week-end evenings so late?  Really??  Well, have fun, then, and as always, don’t overdo it!!

Work Week – Monochromatic

Work Week - Presentations

Seems simple, right, wearing one color?  It is, and it isn’t.  To do a monochromatic outfit justice, try adding different textures to the color you choose.  As shown above, the lace coat and the crocodile leather tote are a very different texture than the smoothness of the dress.

Also, throw in an accent color, as is shown in the belt and shoes, above.  This helps break up the color a bit and makes the outfit more interesting.

Texture and an accent color, in my opinion, add interest and character to a monochromatic look.  Personally, I’ve always been a fan of a monochromatic look.  What about y’all, do you like monochromatic looks?

Where to Wear?

This outfit is so beautiful, it can be worn to so many casual and even dressy events.  Certainly wear it to that conservative office.  Also, wear it on a dinner date, to the ballet, for a wedding or baby shower, or even a wedding.  Wear it to church, wear it on Easter, wear it where ever you choose – the choices are limitless.

Investment Pieces

The jewelry – watch, earings, necklace and ring would all qualify as investment pieces.

The shoes, bag and belt would all fall under this category.

The dress would also be one that can be worn for many years and still look appropriate and stylish.

As beautiful as the coat is, I probably would not choose it as my investment piece.  I had to add it to this outfit, because it looks so beautiful with the dress.

May your days be full of joy and sprinkled with color!! Have a great day, my friends.

Sunday Errands – T-Shirt Dress

Sunday Errands

Shirt Dresses

I live in Texas and right now, it is HOT!!  When running errands, I like to be cool and comfortable.  Usually, I will wear a T-shirt dress so that I can stay cool, but still look put together.

Here are a few of my shirt dress sets.  Enjoy and happy erranding.  I know – erranding is not a real word, but you know what I meant because y’all are smart!!
