Style Diary – Bell Sleeves

Bell Sleeve Beauty

Belle Sleeves

Belle sleeves are so feminine, don’t you think?  I know they are having their moment right now – as they should (we won’t take that moment away from them, will we?), but belle sleeves have been around forever.  I like them, but have you noticed how they get in the way at work, typing away on your keyboard all day?

Where to Wear?

This outfit is so versatile, it can be worn most anywhere.  Change out the sandals for pumps and wear this dress to work or church.  Wear this look on a date, to a ballet, concert, wear it to dinner or to a party.  I can even see wearing this to a wedding.  Why not, right?

Investment Pieces

These style of sandals have been around for a few years, now, and nude is so versatile.  The bag, watch necklace and earings are all terrific investment pieces.

Thoughts

It is Monday…the start to another week of work.  (Assuming your work week is the traditional Monday – Friday sort).  So tell me…are you ready for today, this week?  Did you do everything this past weekend to prepare for the week?  If not, why not?  I know these are annoying questions for a Monday, but I must ask them.

Did you at least choose your outfits for the week?  If you have not, then when you get home from work this evening, at least do that.  Seriously, you will be surprised at how this tiny little activity will help you.  I encourage you to try it – why not?  What do you have to lose?

Have a lovely week, thanks for stopping by.

Fondly, Sonya

Stripes at Brunch

Stripes at Brunch

Casual Stripes

Here is that striped shirt, one last time (I promise) worn in a more casual outfit.  How do y’all think about mixing stripes and florals or other patterns?  I think it works in this outfit…the black and white of the stripes are the same shades of black and white in the skirt.

Or maybe, it doesn’t work…what do y’all think?

Where to Wear?

Wow, the options as to where this can be worn are so numerous, I don’t even know where to start.  Wear it to brunch, today, of course, wear it to work, to dinner, to a play, to church, to those parent-teacher conferences, to meet your boyfriends parents, and on and on.

Investment Pieces

With the exception of that floral skirt, I love all of these as investment pieces.

If the colors of the skirt, however, coordinate with the rest of the colors in your wardrobe, then that too, can become an investment piece.  I can see wearing this skirt with a plain white tee in the summer, a dressy white blouse, perhaps a fun red top…you decide.

Thoughts

This outfit looks so comfortable to wear.  (At least it does in the “picture” form.)

Do y’all wear stripes and florals, together?  They can be tricky to pull off and I can see those less than creative women telling you that this doesn’t “match.”  You can politely smile and say…”that’s exactly the idea.”

Have a fun and relaxing day, ladies (and gentlemen).

Work Week – Monochromatic

Work Week - Presentations

Monochromatic

Seems simple, right, wearing one color?  It is, and it isn’t.  To do a monochromatic outfit justice, try adding different textures to the color you choose.  As shown above, the lace coat and the crocodile leather tote are a very different texture than the smoothness of the dress.

Also, throw in an accent color, as is shown in the belt and shoes, above.  This helps break up the color a bit and makes the outfit more interesting.

Texture and an accent color, in my opinion, add interest and character to a monochromatic look.  Personally, I’ve always been a fan of a monochromatic look.  What about y’all, do you like monochromatic looks?

Where to Wear?

This outfit is so beautiful, it can be worn to so many casual and even dressy events.  Certainly wear it to that conservative office.  Also, wear it on a dinner date, to the ballet, for a wedding or baby shower, or even a wedding.  Wear it to church, wear it on Easter, wear it where ever you choose – the choices are limitless.

Investment Pieces

The jewelry – watch, earings, necklace and ring would all qualify as investment pieces.

The shoes, bag and belt would all fall under this category.

The dress would also be one that can be worn for many years and still look appropriate and stylish.

As beautiful as the coat is, I probably would not choose it as my investment piece.  I had to add it to this outfit, because it looks so beautiful with the dress.

May your days be full of joy and sprinkled with color!! Have a great day, my friends.

Caftan, Poolside

Go Casual Caftan

Caftan at the Pool

My husband and I spent two days in Vegas with friends.  The outfit above would have been appropriate and functional at the pool.  Imagine laying out in that gorgeous yellow bikini, absorbing some sun (not too much, of course); then wrapping yourself up in that colorful caftan, strapping on those amazing sandals and heading inside into one of the hotel restaurants for a delicious lunch.  Maybe a field green salad with candied walnuts, feta cheese and a glass of chardonnay.  Then, back to the room for a little relaxation, or relaxed enjoyment.

My pool experience wasn’t exactly as I described above…maybe it was because I wasn’t wearing this outfit.  Boohoo.

Happy pooling my friends!

Life at the Beach

The only resemblance my life has to the set above is that I own the black Daniel Wellington watch. (and love it, by the way).  Tonight, as I lay down to sleep, I will imagine a life where the sand is white, the sun is warm and my stroll down the beach leads to a pier where my private yacht sits, waiting to take me to my next adventure.  Happy dreams, y’all!!
